To vastly increase the success rate our clinic uses a combination of Chinese herbs and Acupuncture.
The beauty of using Acupuncture to help with nicotine cessation is you get reduced cravings but also it promotes better sleep and relaxation. Acupuncture also gives the added benefit of treating ailments linked with smoking such as impairment of the cardiovascular and the bronchopulmonary systems along with the symptoms from withdrawal of nicotine. Many factors influence the effectiveness of Acupuncture when used to stop smoking such as how long the patient has smoked, frequency of treatment and the patient’s general health. In many instances to help the patient retain the effects of Acupuncture in between treatments we use Auricular (ear) Acupuncture.
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
As of 2010 we have treated around 20 patients for ADD in our clinic. Our success rate for those completing treatment has been very good. 80% reduction in symptoms and elimination of drugs is how we measure our success in this area.
Treating this specific problem in children is particularly encouraging and rewarding. Parents have literally cried with sheer joy as their children’s behavior has normalized and they no longer require any medication. We find that within Chinese Medicine that the most regular cause of this disorder is one of a few things:
- Weakness of the adrenal gland or lung and thyroid combined with slight anemia or
- Excessive inflammation or heat in the body which causes immense agitation
- In both of these cases treatment with Chinese Medicine works swiftly and effectively with children
Depression & Anxiety
During an average day we see 20 to 30 patients who are suffering from anxiety or depression. Within Chinese Medicine 10 separate causes have been identified with these debilitating conditions. Initially we look at the root cause for the illness using Pulse Diagnosis, when the cause has been identified the treatment then follows naturally. Our success rate for mild anxiety or depression our success rate is very encouraging. More severe types of illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disease Western Medicine seems to offer better results. You can look at what our own patients say on our Testimonials page.
Possibly one of the worst conditions individuals can suffer is the inability to sleep. Insomnia exacerbates everything – anxiety, digestive problems, pain and many other problems feel more acute. Western Medicine offers relief in the form of pharmaceutical drugs such as Eszopiclone (Lunesta), Zaleplon (Sonata), Zolpiderm (Ambien) or Ramelteon (Rozerm) and these drugs can cause further problems. It’s common with Western Medicine for insomnia to cause serious allergic reactions like facial swelling and they can cause odd behaviors like preparing and eating food or driving whilst asleep. The side effects that accompany these drugs can include extreme drowsiness, night wandering, agitation, balance problems and impaired thinking and these can be much worse with elderly patients.
At our clinic insomnia is treated using Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture. In Chinese Medicine insomnia is regarded as an indicator of lack of function and health and by reestablishing normal function the insomnia is eliminated. It is our view that drugs that treat insomnia do nothing to return a patient to normal function. Western Medicines subdue the symptoms but do nothing to improve the health and well-being of the individual.
Western Medicine to be fair is improving with its treatment of insomnia by endorsing healthier diets and exercise as part of the overall treatment. This is obviously a far more balanced approach than simply giving drugs especially to the more elderly and one that we welcome. Chinese Medicine believes that insomnia is typically a dysfunction in the liver or heart as if blood flow to the heart is reduced the person will find it difficult to fall asleep. Waking up several times during the night signifies that the liver is sluggish or inflamed. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine treat both causes of insomnia well.

There is no question that childbirth produces the biggest strain on the female human body. Loss of blood and fluids during birth coupled with sleep deprivation in the early stages of a child’s life can leave a lot of women exhausted, depressed and anxious. Western Medicine offers iron supplements to combat any anemia, hormone replacement, counseling and anti-depressants or serotonin reuptake inhibitor drugs.
A different approach altogether is taken with Chinese Medicine as the knowledge is there about tonic herbs such as astragalus and ginseng and many more. This type of herbs when used by an expert Chinese Herbalist can help give back vitality and energy which is vital for a woman suffering postpartum depression. The Chinese Medicine results tend to be far better than the Westernized approach as the patient is being restored to their pre-birth level of health and energy.
